More on Jonas. I saw him in the HD broadcast of Werther. IMHO, the guy was just magnificent. Not only was the singing as good as one gets, his acting was also superb. I think he gets better and better all the time. Clearly he is quite intelligent musically speaking and from what I know of his previous background ( wanted to be a mathematician) its probably a larger set. In any event, I think we are seeing a tenor that we have not seen in a long time, perhaps since the days of Corelli, Di Stefano, and Bergonzi and going back a bit earlier Bjoerling, Tucker, and Del Monaco. I am certainly not suggesting a head to head competition as every singer has a unique niche that they occupy. Today, I think he is indisputably the best around and he compares quite favorable with those of earlier times. Listen and be moved.
